St James works with nine local schools for children between five and eighteen, all committed to delivering a values led curriculum. In 2010 we were delighted to receive the quality mark in recognition of our work as in this area. Our schools have identified 22 values for life. We explore and celebrate one of these core values each month, over a two-year cycle and they underpin our work around school.
We use the language of values as a tool to help children guide their behaviour and to understand the behaviour of others, and our values link closely with our Golden Rules:
– We listen to each other
– We try our best
– We are kind and polite
– We care for each other and our environment
– We are thoughtful
(see Behaviour Policy).
Where possible, we consider links in class, through the curriculum and use values language explicitly (lesson focus and through worship) and implicitly (‘well done for showing respect’.)
The impact of our Values-based curriculum is that our children are kind. courteous and considerate. They feel proud to be pupils at St James and uphold our ethos, demonstrating our values in and out of lessons.
