Science

At St James, our Science curriculum is intended to spark pupils’ curiosity in the world around them and help them develop skills in science as a process of enquiry. We know children love to experiment and so we make sure that that in each element there is plenty of opportunities to learn core science skills through hands-on science.

As children progress through the year groups, they build on their skills in working scientifically, as well as their scientific knowledge, as they develop greater independence in planning and carrying out fair and comparative tests to answer a range of scientific questions.

The curriculum is designed so that core skills, in observation and prediction, for example, are extended and deepened as the children move from year group to year group through the school. Our curriculum helps the children to consolidate and retain science knowledge they have learnt and also reinforce key scientific vocabulary.
